"We love because He first loved us" John 12:15
This past Sunday my baby sister made her way down the aisle and married the man of her dreams.
The whole day was magical from the Starbucks start to the sparkler send off and the (literal) fireworks in between.
Courtney and her fiancé , Steve, met in Nashville where they both live and work as teachers. Swing dancing downtown one evening, Courtney's eyes were locked on the suave swing dancer who every girl wanted to dance with. Drawn together by their magnetic personalities and sheer natural talent, the two found each other and never stopped dancing.
When you see Courtney and Steve together, they just fit. You watch them laugh, dance, adventure, talk with each other and you just know. You know they were made for each other.
Their similarities in their zest for life and spontaneity founded on their faith in the Lord is only more wonderful because of their differences in how they complement each other so well. His practical and logical way of thinking grounds her sheer optimism and idealistic nature. I don't think God could have more perfectly created two human beings, who were so meant for each other.
Their day was perfect. Their first look when the barn doors opened and Courtney looked down the aisle at her man is a moment I will not soon forget. The smile on her face and the way Steve looked at her with such joy and pride through what I am sure was a just a natural sheen of water across his eyes. It was all Court had dreamt it to be, and her dream became a reality.
My amazing husband officiated the wedding, and I was beaming with admiration. He is so gifted and it was so special to see him speak such words of truth over my baby sister and new brother-in-love's marriage. He pronounced them husband and wife and the night was only just beginning.
Their first dance, the toasts, the father daughter dance, the bridesmaids' dance, never has there ever been such INCREDIBLE dancing at a wedding before. So many of their guests were fellow swing dancers, and Steve's band played the reception with all of the best songs. Courtney and Steve sang and dance simultaneously to the awe of everyone in the room, who all were just imagining the future Slovenski children as the next Broadway stars.
The night was interrupted by ushering the guests outside underneath the Tennessee stars as we watched Courtney and Steve dance in the most magical possible setting. As the song ended and Steve masterfully dipped Courtney the sky exploded with fireworks. An entire show of scintillating light painted across the night was the most accurate metaphor of these two in love.
Steve on his own, or Courtney on her own are both sensational in their own right, but when you put them together, fun and love explodes out of their presence as a couple, and it will only grow brighter as they journey together in marriage.
Their marriage exists as a light to bring others to the profound mystery that is Jesus Christ and His unconditional love for His Church. In the good times and in the bad, the way that these two love each other with grace, perseverance, and true love will serve as the most brilliant light to point others to Jesus.
